Welcome to my fine art portfolio

Jacques Derrida

It is translation’s inability to thoroughly re-make a meaning that enables it to make yet another meaning.

Artist Statement

My fine art practice deals with the forces of humankind and nature and how they shape the landscape and the world today.  Interior and exterior worlds are constructed from personal memory, association, dreams and the patterns of nature and technology.  Recurrent themes in my work include journeys, liminality, the paradox of strength and fragility, and portals to other worlds.  I use aerial viewpoints, close-up fragments, architectural forms and historical narrative.

I am interested in the relationship between photography and painting and how these can layer personal memory and association with place.  Ongoing research includes experimentation with ambiguity, semi-abstraction, and process investigation with a wide range of material outcomes using collage and mixed media techniques.  I usually work in series using walking and experiment with photography, sketching and painting to develop a sense of place.

I studied photography at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art  before completing a MA Fine Art at the Cambridge School of Art in 2023.  My work has been exhibited in East Anglia, London and internationally and is held in private collections.
